Why isn't my business showing up on Google?

Your business may be new
New websites and businesses can take time to appear in search results. Google needs time to discover and understand your website and connect it with your business information.
Your website may not clearly explain what you do
If your homepage only says something vague like "Welcome to our business”, Google has very little useful information to work with. Your website should clearly explain:
What you offer
Who you help
Where you work
For example, a website that clearly says “Brisbane dog grooming for small and medium-sized dogs” gives Google much more useful information than a homepage that simply says “Welcome to our salon.”
Your Google Business profile may need attention
For local businesses, your Google Business Profile (your listing in Google Maps) is particularly important. Make sure your information in Google Maps is accurate and up to date including:
Business name
Category
Services
Phone number
Website
Opening hours
Location or service area
Your website and your Google Maps listing should provide consistent information about your business.
Your website and your Google Maps listing work together
Google can use information from your website to better understand:
What your business does
Which services you offer
Where you operate
Which locations you serve
This can help Google understand whether your business is relevant to a particular local search. For example, if your website clearly explains that you provide mobile dog grooming in Brisbane, and your Google Business Profile contains consistent information, Google has a clearer picture of your business.
This does not guarantee a higher position on Google Maps, but your website is an important part of your overall online presence.
You may be searching for the wrong thing
Your business might appear for specific searches but not broad ones. For example, a local hairdresser may appear for “hairdresser in Brisbane” but not for “best hairdresser in Australia”.
SEO takes time
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It means improving your website content and code so search engines can better understand your business and show it to people searching for relevant products or services. Even when everything is set up correctly, search rankings can take time to improve.
SEO is not only about appearing in the traditional Google search results. For local businesses, it can also support your visibility in Google Maps.
Summary
There are several reasons why your business may not appear when people search for you or the services you offer. The problem isn't always that something is broken. Sometimes Google simply doesn't have enough clear or consistent information about your business yet.
Bitesize Digital can help you review your website and online presence and identify the basics that may be holding your business back.
